DEATH VALLEY
Intro:
Have you ever seen a movie where a person, family or a group of foolish teenagers decide to go somewhere they shouldn’t? Well, if you have, then I know that you’re probably just saying to yourself, “Well, that’s just a movie.” Or, maybe you’re thinking, ‘Why did they even go in there in the first place?’ Well, maybe I’m wrong, but you’ve probably done many stupid things yourself. Stupid things that would probably make people ask you, “Why in the world would you do that?”
Well, this is a story about two young teenagers that are in love, who end up making the wrong choice; but, the twist is you won’t be able to ask why they did what they did. So, the next time you see a movie where a group of civilians go into a haunted house or some other spooky mansion, don’t say that they’re stupid for going in there unless you’re absolutely sure that you haven’t, or that you wouldn’t do that yourself.
CHAPTER ONE: BRYAN LANGSTON (THE BOYFRIEND)
Bryan was a wealthy kid but he wasn’t spoiled. He had all money anybody could ever ask for, and everything a kid would ever want. He was probably the only kid that even knew how to handle millions of dollars. The reason he was rich was because his father was a CEO and founder of a famous filming company called, FLIX FILMS. Bryan was also the adventurous type. The only thing that he would ever want to do would be to go out and audition for movies, due to his amazing acting skills. However, Bryan was not, at all, the kind of person that you would ever want to keep waiting. The reason for this would be because all he ever did was nag for hours and hours on about the situation until somebody either, told him to shut up or responded to his question in a rude tone.
Bryan was known for his sudden lack of concentration; no matter what the situation was about; and it would take a punch, slap, or some other type of violent force to get Bryan back to his usual self. Bryan was usually prone to do this when either he got caught up in his own thoughts. This also occurred sometimes when he was thinking very hard or he tuned somebody out. However, this always occurred when he was extremely frightened.
Bryan was 17 years old, and he lived at an address known as, 21 Kennedy Court, which was located 10 miles outside of Los Angelos, California in a small neighborhood called, Paramount. However, due to the ‘lack of action’ in the area, as Bryan once so eloquently put it, Bryan had always wanted to move; his young,14 year-old sister, Diva, who never enjoyed action, insisted that they stayed, so they never moved.
Diva was never home, though. If you called her cell phone she would always answer with, “I’M BUSY!! BY! ” These two minors also had two parents whom they loved dearly even though they were never home. But, this never bothered the two teenagers, now, as they were free to do whatever they wanted to do. Bryan threw numerous parties and hung out with his girlfriend all day on weekends, while Diva would constantly invite her, no good boyfriend over to do what Diva described as, “Studying.” Bryan didn’t care though, because he was always across the street at his girlfriend’s house.
Bryan was told by his parents on his thirteenth birthday that they were moving to Las Vegas to a new headquarters for FLIX FILMS, and that they would be back on his twentieth birthday. They told him that the maid would be their guardian until their return. His father also told Bryan that all the mortgages on the house and cars were paid off, and that he had left twenty million dollars in an account for him. He told Bryan that he had left a credit card on the table for him as well. As his father went on, Bryan started tuning his father out. He wasn’t really happy at all about his parents leaving at the time. Bryan was now scared and his mind was racing faster than the speed of light. He really wanted to listen to his father, but he was so confused and scared that he didn’t think it would be possible to regain focus. Unfortunately, he was usually right about this; once Bryan tuned you out, you’re talking to yourself; but out of nowhere, his father said something that immediately caught his attention. “Bryan, one more thing, you’re in charge until I get back.” Bryan never forgot this last statement, and his number one rule was that they were both going to stay in school, no exceptions. That rule was always obeyed, and if it wasn’t for some reason that he didn’t know about, his sister would be in a world of trouble for weeks. The two were now attending Paramount Regional High School.
CHAPTER TWO: TIARA KAI (THE GIRLFRIEND)
Bryan Langston lived across the street from a girl named Tiara Newman. Tiara Newman had been Bryan’s girlfriend since he was seven years old. Tiara had no friends at all. As a matter of fact, Tiara didn’t even have a mother or a father. She didn’t even have an older sibling that had moved out of the house and gone on to college. This is because her two parents died in a train crash, six years ago, April 12, 2001 to be exact. It was said that a few kids were joking around and switching the tracks, and when the train came pass that area the tracks weren’t totally connected.
Since Tiara and Bryan were both deeply in love Bryan had his maid adopt her. The reason he did this was because he loved her and didn’t want her to go to a foster home. After the maid adopted Tiara, she had to change her last name to Kai, which was highly suitable for her because she was originally from Japan; not to mention that that was also her given middle name anyway. Tiara was highly responsible, and like Bryan’s house and vehicles, Tiara’s house was paid off, too. Also, she had a car that was completely paid off with insurance on everything. This was because her father had paid all the mortgages two days before he left for his train ride. The reason that her car was paid off was because she and Bryan were watching television one night and she’d seen the brand new 2008 Chrysler 300 SRT8 and told Bryan how much she loved the new 300 series. So, after he heard her say that he immediately went out and purchased the car in full the next day. However, Bryan didn’t just purchase this car, pay all the payments up front, and give it to his girlfriend, Bryan also had it tricked out with every state of the art system you could possibly name. This included bass stereos in the trunk and doors, bird wing doors, platinum and silver mixed together rims along with spinners with blood red inserts, back doors that opened in the opposite direction as the regular car doors, neon lights inside the engine, on the frames, in the door placements, in the rims, the license plate frames and back window that could all change to any color you can name. The 300 also had a hood on the front that turned into triangle shaped pieces and folded in to reveal a beautiful one-of-a-kind engine with her name on it. These are only the exterior designs. The interior was too much to describe.
By the time Tiara even got the car, which had been on her birthday, a day from today, Bryan had spent a total of $459,098.90 because each part on the car was made and designed especially for her. I don’t even have to describe the way Tiara reacted when she saw Bryan pull up in the drive way with the car.
Even though she would be alone, Tiara decided that she wanted to stay in her house. The maid didn’t argue, but instead, Bryan’s maid simply allowed Tiara to live in the house.
From time to time, Bryan would go over her house and check to make sure Tiara was ok, but after awhile Tiara started to get annoyed by him coming over in the middle of the night so he just slept over there every weekend. Tiara had turned seventeen the day before today and she attended the same high school as Bryan and Diva.
CHAPTER THREE: “WE’LL LEAVE AT, APROXIMATELY, 10:15am”
It was Monday, November 8, 2007, and Bryan Langston had just woken up. As Bryan sat upright in his bed, he began thinking of what the day had in store for him. After writing down a list of things to do today, Bryan walked over to his bedroom window to see if Tiara had left her house to go into L.A. because she had a habit of trying to find roles for Bryan to audition for every Monday; but Tiara didn’t leave her house. Bryan found this weird because there was a new movie called Mountain Rage open to anyone who wanted to audition and he was expecting her to get the scoop on the information for that audition. Bryan also knew that she hadn’t left for a fact because her brand new 2008 Chrysler 300 SRT8 was still in her drive-way.
“Hey!”
Bryan jumped in surprise at the sound of a sweet voice that came from his bedroom door.
“Jesus, Tiara, don’t do that, I just woke up!” After Tiara laughed hysterically at Bryan’s reaction, she managed to say sorry and sat down on the end of Bryan’s bed.
“So,” Tiara started with a mischievous look in her eye, “what do you plan on doing since your little sister is at My Aunt’s house?” Bryan had totally forgotten about Diva going to Tiara’s Aunt’s house. This was so she could spend time with Tiara’s younger cousins, due to a suggestion made by Tiara; yet, this seemed really odd to Bryan that Tiara suggested this, because she always loved hanging out with Diva.
“Bryan,” Tiara was snapping her fingers in front of her boyfriend’s face, because it seemed that Bryan had been thinking so hard as to why his girlfriend would want somebody that she practically considered a sister to go to her relatives’ house, when she could have spent the entire day with her.
“BRYAN,” she was now frantically shaking her boyfriend by his shoulders, trying to get his attention. Finally, Bryan regained concentration after a hard slap to the left side of his face from Tiara struck him.
“What was that for!?!” Bryan yelled in pain holding the left side of his face.
“Bryan, baby, you got to stop tuning people out like that. Now, what would happen if somebody were to tell you that something bad were about to happen,” Tiara asked sitting back down on the end of the bed.
“Yeah, you’re right, babe. I’m sorry. From now on I’m going to stop tuning people out, ok?” Tiara just shook her head. There wasn’t much more she could do, because she had heard Bryan give this same speech many times.
“Ok, I’m going to ask you again. What do you plan on doing today since Diva’s at Auntie’s house?”
Bryan smiled and said, “I was actually planning on hanging out with you, sweetheart.”
“Perfect!” Tiara leapt with great excitement from the bed and ended up right in front of Bryan.
“What? What’s perfect? Did I say something?” Now, Bryan seemed to be completely confused as he was trying to figure out whether he had missed something she said when tuning her out, or was his girlfriend actually making no sense at all. In the midst of his thoughts, he noticed that he was tuning her out again, and when he once again started to focus in on what she was saying, he heard her mentioning a plan that she had devised to try and get them alone for the day so they could go see a house that she was planning to buy them after they graduated.
Pretending that he had heard everything that Tiara had just told him, he gave her a kiss and asked what time they would leave. It was at this time that the two had looked up at a new spooky, glowing, Roman numeral clock to find that the current time was 8:22am.
“Uh, can we leave at 10:15, Bryan?”
“Tonight!?!”
“No, 10:15, this morning!”
“Oh, ok. No problem, Tiara, except, what are we going to do in the mean time?”
Tiara began thinking. She had never considered the fact that they had exactly one hour and eight minutes to spare.
“How about we take the new car for a spin around L.A.,” and as Tiara said this, she put her arms around Bryan’s neck.
“Ok,” was the only response that came out of Bryan’s mouth, as he leaned in and kissed Tiara.
“Thanks, you’re the best boyfriend ever! Now, don’t forget, we’ll leave at, approximately, 10:15am.”
“Ok. Trust me, I’ll remember.”
“I know,” and with that last said, Tiara turned around and walked out of Bryan’s room giggling down the stairs and out the front door.
