Evey flinched when the lightning illuminated the large library. She was pretty much alone, browsing through the shelves and isles of books. She'd not yet found one that had caught her eye, but she kept looking. They all looked the same to her tonight, though. The thick, leather bound books couldn't find her interest tonight as they usually did. She wanted the interest to fall in to their pages, to loose herself in the complicated sentence structure and words, but something in her mind wasn't clicking. Finally, she slid down one of the book cases and allowed her head to fall in her hands. And to occasionally jump at the bright lightning outside.

Raven walked in her wand illuminated. She spotted Evey. "Hi what are you looking for?" she asked. She smiled and slid a book off the self.

"My dignity..." Evey mumbled, her voice muffled by her hand. "Nothing in particular."

"Evey?" David peeked around a shelf and saw his fellow gryffindor with her head in her hands flinching as a storm raged outside. He put his hand on her shoulder "Are you okay?" He sat beside her.

Evey jumped at the contact. "Hi, David. Yeah. I'm fine, just...looking for a book. On the bottom shelf...or the floor. You know, I haven't decided yet." She forced a smile.

David stared out of the window then turned his gaze back unto the girl. "Is the storm getting to you or is it something else?" He hated to see a fellow gryffindor upset, let alone a witch in gryffindor. "Or do you just need some help finding a good book." He grinned, trying to make her feel more at ease. There was another flash of ightning followed my a deep roll of thunder. David slipped his arm around Evey's shoulders in an attempt to comfort her if it was indeed the storm that had her so flustered,

"A little of both. I'm not much for storms...or brothers that disappear for a year, then show back up." She frowned and lifted her head out of her hands, but kept her eyes fixed on her fingers. They fidgeted with a loose red curl over her shoulder.

Allie walks into the library half expecting it to be empty, no one coomes to the library in a storm besides for her. She likes watching the storm from the window. When she walks in she notices David and Evey standing together. David had his arms around her, "Wow, get over them fast don't ya David?" Allie was even surprised at her tone.

David nodded "I know storms can be tough for some people and a broken family is no cake-walk either, that much I know." He watched her play with her hair and couldn't contain a small smile. "we make the best of it though don't we, put on our brave gryffindor faces, and while we are sad while they are gone, feel betrayed when they leave us. But when they come back, if they come back, we smile and make them feel welcome. We do everything they can to ensure they won't leave again." David coughed. "But maybe thats just me." David heard Allie, why did she have to speak about things she did not know. He didn't respond unwilling to do anything that might upset Evey anymore. He was trying to make her feel better.

Evey furrowed her brow and looked up at Allie. She nodded idly to what David was saying and tugged on the piece of hair she'd been playing with. She wanted to say something more, but her mind was on the letter tucked away in her pocket. Her hand went subconsciously to hover over it, then dropped back into her lap.

David noticed that even with her body in his arms Evey's mind was somewhere else. He dropped his arm from her and took the hair she was pulling out of her hand. "If there is anything you want to talk about I'm all ears but if you would rather be alone to think I will bring you to the gryffindor common room and let you be alone there. I won't allow you to stay here in this weather where anyone could just walk in and disturb you." He stared at her pocket for a moment then looked at the floor.

Evey looked up at him as though she'd just noticed him there. "I'm so sorry, David. My mind was elsewhere. Can I ask you a question?" She chewed her bottom lip in thought.

David shook his head "No matter. I can't fault you for being preoccupied, you were that way when I found you. You can ask me anything after all we're housemates."

Evey smiled her thanks and looked back down at her fingers. "Have you ever felt like something was your fault, even though you know full well that it's not?" She asked. Her eyebrows pulled back together.

"More often than I'd like to admit but nothing good ever comes of it." He looked at Evey willing her to look up from her hands "It's hard to look at situations especially ones involving alot of emotion objectively but I've found it's the only way to make sense of my life." He flashed a pained smile.
